Changing Lives, One Cast at a Time

Idaho River Buddies was founded at the Trouthunter fly shop counter in Island Park, Idaho. Here, a few seasoned guides recognized an opportunity to give back to the community. What began as an idea one morning by a few fishing guides evolved into an annual event and ultimately transformed into a nonprofit organization. Its mission focuses on mentoring youth through the art of fly fishing.

From that first trip down the Henry’s Fork to the present day, hundreds of kids have had the chance to float rivers with professional guides, received fly rods and all the fly fishing equipment necessary to take on the sport, learn casting techniques, and build personal confidence. They do this alongside some of the finest fishing guides in the world. Idaho River Buddies serves as a testament to the idea that all it takes is a fly rod, a dedicated mentor, and a river to ignite meaningful change in young lives.

Since 2011, Idaho River Buddies has proudly distributed hundreds of high-quality rods and reels and all the necessary fly fishing equipment to underpriviledged kids in order to take on the adventure aimed at fostering skills and a love for the outdoors. Our commitment focuses on helping kids engage with nature, enhancing their confidence, and forming valuable connections with caring mentors. The touching stories — and the smiles they bring — reflect the profound difference the impact has made on their lives.
